Mumbai: In Hinduism, the observance of Ekadashi fasts holds deep spiritual importance. There are 24 Ekadashi fasts in a year, with two falling every month. The Ekadashi of the Krishna Paksha (waning moon) in the month of Bhadrapada is known as Aja Ekadashi, dedicated to Lord Vishnu, revered as Shri Hari Narayan.
It is believed that observing the Aja Ekadashi vrat removes ailments, sorrows and hardships, ushering happiness and prosperity into life. Falling annually after Krishna Janmashtami, this vrat is said to offer spiritual merit equivalent to the donation of a thousand cows.
