What is the new update on UDAN scheme?
Taking this scheme forward on Wednesday, the government has launched ‘Modified UDAN’, which will run for the next 10 years. Now 100 new airports will be developed across the country. 200 new helipads will be built so that connectivity can be increased even in hilly and remote areas. If someone falls ill in the mountains or on an island, these helipads will act as air ambulances. Airlines will get subsidy for a longer period, due to which cheap tickets will continue to be available for a longer period. This means that flights are going to become even cheaper and easier in the coming time.
What is UDAN Scheme?
UDAN means ‘Ude Desh Ka Aam Nagrik’ i.e. common citizens also fly. This is a government scheme, whose objective is to connect small cities (Tier-2, Tier-3) with big cities and provide cheap air travel. Under this scheme, the government gives subsidy to airlines companies, so that they can sell tickets at lower prices. This is the reason why one hour flights are available for up to ₹2,500 on many routes.
How to get a flight ticket for ₹2,500?
The subsidy model is designed in such a way that the government fixes the price of some seats and provides financial support to the airlines to cover the losses. About 50% of the seats in every UDAN flight are cheap (capped price) and the remaining seats are sold at market rates. Due to this, the common man gets cheaper tickets and the airline does not suffer any loss.
How to book ticket in UDAN scheme?
UDAN ticket is not available through any separate app. You have to do the same as you do for a normal flight. Whenever you visit the website or app of airlines like IndiGo, Air India or SpiceJet, cheap tickets on UDAN routes are visible there. But keep in mind that only the one who books first will be able to get a ticket worth ₹ 2,500, later the price increases.
