Starting September 2025, Air India Express is adding three new direct routes from Bengaluru, connecting Ahmedabad, Chandigarh, and Dehradun. If you’ve been waiting for more nonstop options out of Kempegowda International Airport, here’s what you need to know.
When Do the New Flights Start?
The expansion begins September 1, with the Bengaluru–Ahmedabad and Bengaluru–Chandigarh services taking off first. Flights to Dehradun are set to follow two weeks later, starting September 15.
- Bengaluru to Ahmedabad – begins September 1
- Bengaluru to Chandigarh – also starts September 1
- Bengaluru to Dehradun – launches September 15
Each route will have daily flights, which is good news if you value flexibility or need to travel on short notice.
Why These Routes?
According to airline officials, these additions are a direct response to growing demand from travelers and local authorities. These cities have been seeing more traffic, especially for business, education, and tourism. The new routes aim to improve regional connectivity and offer smoother options for domestic travel without long layovers.
What About Fares?
For the first few days after launch, introductory one-way fares will start around ₹4,100. The airline is rolling out limited-time discounts, so booking early could save you a decent chunk of money.
Where Else Does Air India Express Fly From Bengaluru?
Air India Express already operated over 400 weekly flights out of Bengaluru. It currently connects to 34 domestic cities and 3 international destinations. With these three new routes, the airline is tightening its grip on the domestic market while catering to high-demand sectors.
Safety and Scrutiny After the Ahmedabad Crash
These new routes come at a time when the airline is still under public and regulatory scrutiny. On June 12, Air India Flight 171 tragically crashed into a hostel near BJ Medical College in Ahmedabad. Only one of the 242 people on board survived, and 19 people on the ground also lost their lives.
Following the accident, the airline took several steps, including temporarily cutting back flights and completing full inspections of its Boeing 737 and 787 aircraft.
CEO Campbell Wilson stated that the airline has since improved pilot training, reviewed standard operating procedures, and focused on strengthening internal reporting systems.
Final Thoughts
New direct flights from Bengaluru to Ahmedabad, Chandigarh, and Dehradun are starting soon, with competitive fares and daily departures. While the airline is expanding, it’s also under pressure to prove that it’s doing so safely and responsibly.
If you’re planning domestic travel in September or beyond, these new routes might make your trip easier and cheaper.
