Air India Crash Report: Hearing was held in the Supreme Court in the Air India aircraft accident case in Ahmedabad on June 12. The court expressed displeasure over the conviction of the pilots. Said that secrecy should be maintained till the final report comes.
Ahmedabad air india crash: On 12 June 2025, an Air India aircraft crashed in Ahmedabad. Due to this 260 people died. The Supreme Court on Monday heard a petition seeking an early investigation under the supervision of the Air India Boeing Dreamliner aircraft accident and a quick investigation under the court’s supervision. Meanwhile, the court said that it is “irresponsible” to blame the pilots based on the preliminary inquiry report.
Supreme Court said- unfortunate to claim pilots responsible for the accident
A bench of Justices Suryakant and Justice NK Singh called the media reports “unfortunate”, indicating that the “mistake of the pilot” was responsible for the accident. These reports allegedly cited some initial findings of the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau of Investigation (AAIB).
The Supreme Court asked, “If someone would say in an irresponsible manner tomorrow, the family would be harmed. If there was no mistake found in the final investigation report later, what would happen?” The court directed to maintain confidentiality until the investigation is completed.
Supreme Court issued notice for transparent and early investigation
The petition has been filed by the NGO ‘Safety Matters Foundation’. Advocate Prashant Bhushan appeared on behalf of NGO. He said that the American publication The Wall Street Journal had published a story on an accident investigation even before the initial report was submitted to the Center. Bhushan told the bench, “After this the government officially released the report and everyone started saying that it was a pilot’s fault. He was a very experienced pilot, yet the story shows that the pilot was about to commit suicide and changed the fuel switch.”
On this, Justice Kant said, “This was unfortunate”. He described media reports as “very irresponsible” reporting, stating that one of the pilots committed suicide. The bench said, “Unfortunately, sometimes when such a tragedy, rival airlines take advantage of it.” The court issued a notice to the Directorate General of Civil Aviation and the Ministry of Civil Aviation for transparent, fair and early investigation.
The Supreme Court said, “Anyone can start blaming the employees of the airline. No one should be allowed to spread rumors or to present the situation incorrectly.” The bench said that even though the petitioner’s demand for a fair inquiry is appropriate, making all the results public at this time will obstruct the investigation.
