Former Tamil Nadu Minister and AIADMK leader K.T. Rajendra Balaji on Saturday said the party would welcome actor Dhanush with open arms if he decided to join the organisation, amid social media speculation about the actor’s possible entry into politics.
Speaking to reporters in Sivakasi, Balaji described Dhanush as a prominent actor with considerable influence among young people. He said the AIADMK was open to individuals who could strengthen the party and contribute to its objectives.
“If Dhanush joins the AIADMK, we will welcome him with both hands,” Balaji said, responding to questions about reports linking the actor to a possible political move.
The remarks come amid social media claims that Dhanush was preparing to enter politics and had registered a political party reportedly named “Tamil Nadu Uchi Kazhagam” with the Election Commission. However, there has been no official confirmation of these claims.
Separately, reports suggested that a meeting of the actor’s fan clubs held on October 15 discussed their future activities. According to these reports, the clubs would operate as a charitable organisation, with a flag and emblem also being introduced.
These reported organisational changes have fuelled speculation about Dhanush’s future plans. However, the available information does not establish that the charitable initiative signals an intention to launch a political party or join an existing one.
Balaji said AIADMK General Secretary and former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami had the ability to bring together people from different backgrounds and welcome those whose participation could benefit the party.
He added that the party leadership was open to constructive ideas and would consider individuals who could contribute to the organisation’s growth.
“Anyone who is useful to the development of the movement can be brought into it,” Balaji said.
The former minister also commented on actors entering public life, saying they were entitled to pursue politics but should give up acting once they became involved in political activities. He criticised the practice of pursuing film careers and politics simultaneously, without naming any individual.
Balaji, however, did not confirm any contact between Dhanush and the AIADMK or indicate that the actor had expressed an intention to join the party.
“Only time will tell whether the information that Dhanush wants to join the AIADMK is true or merely a rumour,” he said, leaving the actor’s political intentions unconfirmed.
