AIADMK leader CV Shanmugam’s ‘I want Nayanthara’ remark spark row in Tamil Nadu

Villupuram: A controversy has erupted over remarks made by former AIADMK Minister C.V. Shanmugam during a protest held in Villupuram—staged to condemn the lack of safety for women.

Representing the AIADMK-BJP-NDA alliance, members staged protests across Tamil Nadu to condemn the DMK government, alleging that law and order have deteriorated and that women are unsafe. Former AIADMK Minister C.V. Shanmugam participated in the protest held in the Villupuram district today. While addressing the gathering, he made remarks targeting Chief Minister M.K. Stalin’s famous slogan.

CV Shanmugam’s controversial remark

Shanmugam stated, “Abdul Kalam urged us to ‘dream.’ Stalin goes a step further and says, ‘Tell me your dreams.’ He claims that if you voice your dream, he will fulfill it. Well, then—I want Nayanthara. Will he fulfill this dream? Someone might ask him to arrange a marriage with Nayanthara; would he actually fulfill such a dream?” He added, “He has already lost power. Yet, having lost the government, he now claims he will fulfill people’s dreams. It remains unclear what exactly he was doing for the past five years.”

C.V. Shanmugam’s derogatory remarks—directed at an actress who had spoken at a protest highlighting the lack of safety for women—have sparked a major controversy.

Widespread condemnation

Feminist organizations, political parties, and film celebrities have to condemn these comments. It is worth noting that a previous incident involving BJP State President Nainar Nagendran and actress Trisha had also generated significant controversy.
