At the AI Impact Summit 2026 held in New Delhi, Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei said that India has a completely central role in shaping the future of Artificial Intelligence (AI). He said that as the world’s largest democracy, India can take the lead in handling both the risks and opportunities of AI related to economic, social and security.
Country of geniuses in data center
Amodei said that AI has progressed very rapidly in the last decade, as if Moore’s Law has come into force for intelligence. He believes that in the coming few years, AI models can surpass humans in many tasks.
Describing it as a country of geniuses in the data center, he said that AI agents can work faster and with better coordination than humans. However, he also warned that there are dangers like its misuse, impact on jobs and security risks.
Anthropic’s expansion in India
The company opened its office in Bengaluru this week and appointed Irina Ghosh as Managing Director of Anthropic India. Partnerships have also been made with big Indian companies like Infosys, so that AI solutions can be developed as per digital infrastructure, enterprise transformation and local needs.
Anthropic plans to partner with organizations like EkStep Foundation, Pratham and Central Square Foundation to apply AI in the education, agriculture and health sectors.
India’s growth may get a big boost
Amodei says that while AI can lead to about 10% growth in developed countries, India can achieve rapid economic growth of up to 2025%. He said that both technical talent and willingness to adopt new technology are present in India, due to which AI can accelerate the progress of the country.
However, he also made it clear that along with the benefits of AI, it will be necessary to ensure security, transparency and human control, so that the technology can be used properly and safely.
