AI smart glasses will be used for security on the 77th Republic Day in Delhi. These glasses, equipped with facial recognition and thermal imaging, will identify suspects in the crowd and match them with the police database and strengthen security.
New Delhi: On the 77th Republic Day, security forces patrolled the streets of Delhi wearing AI-based smart glasses instead of normal glasses. The security forces will use AI smart glasses with Facial Recognition System (FRS) and thermal imaging technology. These hi-tech glasses will help in instantly identifying suspects from the crowd. Delhi Police has taken this step to further strengthen the security of the capital.
How do these smart glasses work?
These smart glasses are directly linked to the police database, which contains records of criminals and other persons kept under surveillance. These goggles will work in conjunction with the mobile phones given to field officers. When a person is scanned, the system compares their facial data to a database. Then some signals are received. If a green signal is received, it means that the person has no criminal record. At the same time, Red Alert marks a person included in police records. This system helps in giving immediate information to the officials. These high-tech glasses reduce the need for manual screening in crowded areas.
Officials say the facial recognition system can match faces in a matter of seconds and can still identify people even if their appearance has changed over the years. The system will also compare real-time photos with older photos to efficiently verify identities.
In addition to facial recognition, the smart glasses also include thermal imaging technology. This feature can detect hidden metal objects or possible weapons. This adds another layer of security. These hi-tech goggles will help officers monitor large crowds more effectively. This would be particularly beneficial in areas where traditional testing methods are inadequate.
This security arrangement includes multi-layer barricading, six-layer checking and searching. Thousands of CCTV cameras, including FRS cameras, have been installed in Delhi. FRS equipped mobile vehicles will also be deployed at various locations. New Delhi’s Additional Police Commissioner Devesh Kumar Mahala said that Delhi Police is ready to deal with any kind of situation. He also said that mock drills are being conducted in collaboration with several security agencies and out of the total deployment, 10,000 soldiers will be deployed exclusively in Delhi.
