Ahoi Ashtami Vrat rules: According to the Panchang, every year the fast of Ahoi Ashtami is observed on the Ashtami date of Krishna Paksha of Kartik month. Keep Nirjala fast: There is a rule to keep this fast Nirjala (without food and water). However, if health is not good then fruits and water can be consumed.
Worship of Mata Ahoi: In the evening, during Pradosh period, worship Mata Ahoi as per the rituals. Install a picture or statue of Ahoi Mata made of ocher or brought from the market on the wall. It should also have a picture of the porcupine (spiny rodent) and their babies.
Text of Vrat Katha: Ahoi Mata Vrat Katha should be recited or heard with devotion during the puja. While listening to the story, keep seven types of grains in hand.

Ahoi Ashtami fast is considered to be related to Mother Parvati. According to the legend, once a woman unknowingly killed a porcupine’s baby, due to which her son died. Then Goddess Parvati told the woman the method of worshiping Ahoi Mata, due to which her son was brought back to life. Since then this fast started being observed for the long life of the children and a happy family.
