Ahoi Ashtami 2025: This year the holy festival of Ahoi Ashtami will be celebrated on 13 October. On this day the mother observes Nirjala fast for the long life of her child. On this auspicious occasion, Ahoi Mata, the form of Mother Parvati, is worshipped. She is considered the goddess who protects children. In this, the fast is broken in the evening by looking at the stars and after offering Argh. This festival comes a few days after Karva Chauth and before Diwali. Women who do not have children also observe this fast with the wish of having a child.

Recipe: To make this, first of all put a big vessel on the gas and heat water and add jaggery in it and let it dissolve. When the jaggery melts completely, turn off the gas and let it cool a little. Now mix wheat flour, fennel and cardamom powder in a bowl. After this, add the cooled jaggery solution little by little and prepare a slightly thick solution. It is neither too thin nor thick. Keep this paste covered for 15 to 20 minutes. Now put oil in a pan and heat it. When the oil becomes hot, take small amounts of the mixture with your hands or with a spoon and drop it into the oil. Now fry the gulagulas on low flame till they turn golden brown. Take it out on tissue paper so that its extra oil gets removed. Jaggery Dumplings are ready.

Jaggery kheer

Ingredients: 1 liter milk, 1/4 cup rice, grated or in small pieces, 1/2 cup jaggery, 1 tsp ghee, 1/2 tsp cardamom powder (optional), dry fruits and nuts as required

Recipe: Kheer is also made on Ahoi Ashtami. You can use jaggery to make it. First of all, wash the rice and soak it in water for 30 minutes. After this take it out from water. Place a heavy vessel on low flame and add milk to it and boil it. When it starts boiling, add rice into it. Keep stirring it continuously on low flame so that the milk does not stick to the vessel. Let the rice and milk cook for about 20 to 30 minutes. Till the rice becomes completely soft and the milk becomes slightly thick. Now turn off the gas to let the milk cool down because adding jaggery to hot milk can cause the milk to curdle. After this, add grated jaggery to it and mix it until it dissolves completely. Use only jaggery without spices. On top of this, add lightly roasted dry fruits in ghee and you can add cardamom powder.
