Now it has been officially announced that Ahmedabad will host the Commonwealth Games to be held in the year 2030. This historic announcement was made at the end of the meeting of the ‘Commonwealth Sports General Assembly’ held in Glasgow, Scotland on Wednesday. This moment is a matter of immense pride for the whole of India and especially for Gujarat.

Ahmedabad’s Games Plan – Modern, Smart and Player-centric
Ahmedabad’s Games Plan has been prepared with state-of-the-art, concise and keeping the players at the centre. One of Asia’s largest multi-sport projects—the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Sports Enclave—will form the centerpiece of the event. Along with this, world class facilities like Gujarat Police Academy and Veer Savarkar Sports Complex located at Karai will strengthen the games.
Emphasis on state-of-the-art infrastructure and sustainability
Ahmedabad’s integrated transport network, modern housing, digital infrastructure and preparations started before 2023 have made the city suitable to host the event. Para-sports will also be included in these games. Also, examples of sustainable games will be presented through renewable energy, low-emission transportation and zero waste management.

National sports reform bid strengthened
Reforms like the National Sports Policy 2025, the National Sports Governance Act 2025 and the National Anti-Doping (Amendment) Bill 2025 gave a strong foundation to India’s bid. These reforms gave new strength to transparency, governance reforms and player welfare in the Indian sports system.
Joint effort of India-Gujarat Government and CGA India
The Commonwealth Games will be jointly organized by the Government of India, the Government of Gujarat and the Commonwealth Games Association of India. How did Ahmedabad get hosting of Commonwealth Games?
Starting from ‘Letter of Intent’ – January 2025
India’s hosting journey began on 9 January 2025 when Commonwealth Sport sent a ‘Letter of Intent’ to India. After this, on 29 January 2025, Commonwealth Sport chiefs visited Gujarat and reviewed the preliminary preparations.
India’s formal commitment – March 2025
On March 13, 2025, India expressed its formal desire to host by submitting a ‘Letter of Intent’. After this, the first virtual kick-off meeting was held on 29 April 2025, in which the timelines and process of documents were decided.
Appointment of expert agency – May 2025
An expert advisory agency was appointed for the technical development of the bid in May 2025.
London meeting and assessment – June to August 2025
In June 2025, the Indian delegation visited London and met Commonwealth sports officials. On 3 August 2025, the Commonwealth Sports team came to Ahmedabad and assessed the venue and facilities.
Formal presentation – September 2025
On 23 September 2025, India gave a detailed presentation of the vision and preparations for the Centenary Commonwealth Games.
Executive Board Recommendation – October 2025
On 14 October 2025, the Commonwealth Sports Board recommended Ahmedabad, describing India’s bid as strong and professional.
Final Selection- November 2025
On 26 November 2025, the General Assembly officially declared Ahmedabad as the host of the 2030 Commonwealth Games. This is a historic achievement for India, Gujarat and the entire Commonwealth community.
