Agra: A Congress leader and advocate named Jalaluddin has been booked for allegedly raping a woman and coercing her to convert to Islam.
The incident reportedly took place inside the Congress party office in Agra, Uttar Pradesh. A First Information Report (FIR) was filed on Friday, July 4, after the woman submitted a complaint to the police.
As per reports, the complainant is a resident of the Shahganj area and she first met Jalaluddin in July 2019 at the District Court while dealing with a family dispute involving her brothers. Jalaluddin assured her legal assistance and gradually gained her trust. The two remained in contact, and he would frequently visit her residence.
The woman said that in September 2019, Jalaluddin took her to the Congress office on MG Road under the pretext of arranging medicines. Once inside, he allegedly threatened her with a firearm and raped her. Out of fear of damaging her reputation, she did not reveal the incident to anyone. The accused then allegedly continued to rape her on multiple occasions.
The survivor, who lives with her daughter and mother while her husband resides in Gujarat, alleged that Jalaluddin would force his way into her house and offer namaz. She claimed that he pressured her to read the Qalma and perform namaz, urging her to convert to Islam and marry him.
She further stated that the accused used threats and intimidation, including barging into her home uninvited and attempting to smear her character. On one occasion, she alleged, Jalaluddin tried to attack her with a knife when she stopped him from offering namaz in her house. The woman said she has CCTV footage of this incident.
She also accused Jalaluddin of physically assaulting her when she refused to perform religious rituals. The victim said that her attempt to lodge a complaint on July 2 was unsuccessful. She then submitted a written plea to the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM), after which a case was registered by the police.
