New Delhi: A 24-year-old woman, allegedly died by suicide in Greater Noida’s Ecotech-III area on Monday. The family of the woman has blamed her in-laws for the death. They accused the in-laws of the woman of harassing her for dowry, said the police.
Woman married 1.5 years ago: Police
This is the second case of suicide of a newly married woman from Noida. Earlier, Twisha Sharma, hailing from Noida allegedly died by suicide at her in-laws house in Madhya Pradesh’s Bhopal.
The victim from Noida has been identified as Deepika. She was from Kudi Khera village under Badalpur Police Station. She married Hrithik, a resident of Jalpura village, around 1.5 years ago. According to the police, the woman jumped from the terrace of her house in Greater Noida on Sunday night. They said that she took the extreme step after suffering dowry harassment at the hands of her husband and in-laws for a long time.
The woman was badly injured after the fall and died a few hours later, said officials.
After the police were informed, they reached the house immediately. They sent the body of the woman for post mortem and then proceeded with the initial investigations into the death.
Complaint filed by woman’s father, husband held
Based on a complaint filed by Deepika’s father, the police have booked her in-laws and husband for alleged dowry harassment and also abetment to suicide. Her father-in-law and husband have now been arrested, said a police personnel, quoted by the Times of India.
The name of the woman’s father-in-law is Manoj. Officials said that investigations are still on in the matter and the arrested persons are now being questioned. Investigators are also talking to other family members and gathering evidence to corroborate the charges levelled by the woman’s family against her in-laws and husband.
Meanwhile in the Twisha Sharma case, the police have constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT). They will now be probing the case. The post mortem report of the woman revealed that she died by hanging. There are also additional findings which have raised suspicion in the minds of her family members.
