Ishan Kishan played for India after enduring the grief of his cousin’s death before the T20 World Cup final. He made an important contribution in the victory by playing an inning of 54 runs in 25 balls and dedicated this victory to his late sister.
Ahmedabad: Ishan Kishan, who was the hero of India’s spectacular victory in the T20 World Cup final, came on the field with a huge sorrow in his chest. Kishan, who returned to Team India after a long time, expressed his pain to the world after the victory against New Zealand.
Ishaan’s cousin sister and her husband died in a car accident on Friday, just before the final match. This news broke Ishaan from within, but he decided to fight strongly for the team. Ishaan’s father Pranav Pandey was also going to come to Ahmedabad to watch the final, but after this sad news he canceled his plan. The family itself gave courage to Ishaan and asked him to play for the country, after which he stayed with the team.
After the match, Ishan Kishan said, “I lost my cousin sister and her husband in a car accident. Today I played for them. I spoke to Hardik Bhai about this and he told me to put the team first. I dedicate this win to them.” Even after completing his fifty, Kishan paid tribute to his sister and brother-in-law by raising his bat towards the sky.
Kishan, who was out of Team India for the last two years, returned to the team after performing brilliantly in domestic cricket. In the World Cup, he scored 317 runs and became the fourth highest run-scorer in the tournament. Among Indian batsmen, he stood second after Sanju Samson. In the final, he made a century partnership with Sanju for the second wicket and played a stormy innings of 54 runs in 25 balls. Apart from batting, he also took brilliant catches of Rachin Ravindra and Tim Seifert in fielding.
Ishaan told that when he was out of the team, he followed the attitude of Virat Kohli. “I tried to work hard without thinking about things that were not in my control,” he said. Ishaan also revealed that captain Suryakumar Yadav had called him before the World Cup squad was announced. Surya asked, “Will you make us win the World Cup?” To this Ishaan replied, “If you trust me, I will do it.” And Ishaan maintained that trust.
