Trump after tariff is planned to change H1B visa
The decision to increase the tax by 50 per cent on goods imported from India by US President Donald Trump has come into force today (August 27). This will have a major impact on the trade relations of India and America and can harm many big exporting industries in India.
Meanwhile, another bad news has come. According to The Economics report, the Trump government is going to make a big change in the process of H-1B visa and green cards. This will have a special impact on Indian employees and students as Indians have about 70% of the H-1B visa.
US Commerce Minister Howard Lutnik has described this visa system as fraud and said that now the job in America will be given to American citizens first. He says that most of the visas in the current system are found by employees whose salary is less than the US average. Therefore, in new changes, people who have more salary will get more salary.
H-1B visa will be available on salary basis
Currently, there is a limit of 85,000 every year of H1-B visa. For this limit, it is decided every year through a lottery system that the employee of which company will get a visa. But according to US Commerce Minister Lutnik, this lottery system will have to be eliminated and adopted a way to give visas on the basis of salary. That is, the employee who takes more salary will be given priority in getting visas. The draft of this change has also been approved by a particular department of the US government. The aim is that visa holders coming from abroad should be more capable and earning good.
This directly means that foreign employees working in low -paid jobs, such as new graduates or small businesses, may be in trouble. This step was also proposed in 2021, but the Biden administration did not implement it at that time.
Trump government is going to bring gold card
Apart from this, the Trump administration is preparing to start a new program called Gold Card. This scheme will first give preference to meritorious and high salaries. Its purpose is to make the process of getting a green card in the US tightened and more effective. However, Vice President JD Vance has said that the green card does not mean that a person will always live in America. Due to this, many questions are being raised about the future of green card holders.
Indian employees and students, who are mostly dependent on H-1B visas, will be the most affected by this change. According to the data, only 70% of the H-1B visa found every year gets to Indians. According to the new rules, it will be necessary to give personal data like biometric information and housing address in the visa application. Along with this, the visa process will become even more difficult with strict investigation and more paperwork.
