After India’s largest IT company Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), now the world’s legendary tech company Google has also decided to trim. This time the company has fired about 100 employees from its cloud division. Google has taken this step at a time when it is trying to reduce its operating cost ie operation cost and is also giving more importance to Artificial Intelligence (AI) in its strategy. Employees expelled from the company were mainly working in departments associated with design and user Experience Research (UX Research). Their responsibilities included doing product research, analyzing user data and helping the development of new features.
Why is the trimming being done despite the profit?
The most surprising thing is that Google In this time, this trimming has been done at a time when its cloud division is continuously earning excellent profits. In the second quarter of 2025, Google Cloud earned $ 13.6 billion, which is 32 percent more than last year. Not only this, the operating profit of this division has also increased to $ 2.8 billion.
Despite this, the focus of the company is now on reduced costs and re -sharing of resources. Under this, Google is cutting the departments and roles that are not part of its new AI-concentrated strategy. That is, now the company is pushing the responsibilities based on AI and new techniques instead of old functioning methods.
Google’s focus increased on AI
Google has made Artificial Intelligence (AI) its priority since the beginning of 2025. In this direction, the company started giving voluntary retirement packages to employees in many units located in America. Apart from this, about one -third of the employees associated with management were also trimmed. This entire process is being done in a very calm and phased manner. According to reports, some employees were given the option to transfer to other teams, while many were caught directly to leave the job.
Employees without notices
Many former employees told that they did not get any prior information about going to the job, nor the time of preparation. An employee told the media that he was working in America on O-1 visa. Under this visa, he will have to find a new job within just 60 days, otherwise he will have to leave America.
The company has given some affected employees a chance to apply for jobs in other departments by the beginning of December. But the way this process was carried out, questions are being raised on the transparency of it. In the circles of social media and tech industry, both resentment and concern are being seen about this.
Sorting has been done before
This is not the first time Google has trimmed such a large scale. In May 2025 too, the company showed the way out to about 200 employees. It has been clear from the cases that have been revealed so far that Google has cut the employees in at least two different stages. Both times the company has not issued any official statement.
