After live-in partner’s body found in rented house, Kannada actress arrested in Bengaluru

New Delhi: A shocking case has come to light from Bengaluru where a Kannada actress has been arrested for allegedly murdering her live-in partner on Monday.

Police arrested Bindu, a small-time actress who starred in films and TV serials, along with two others on murder charges. They were taken into police custody after the decomposed body of Bindu’s live-in partner was found inside their rented house in Vijayalakshmi Layout in Bengaluru. The house was locked for some time.

The victim has been identified as Mohan Krishna, a small-time financier and pigmy collector. The arrested accused are Bindu, who also claims to be an LLB graduate, Vinay, a trucker, and Dhanush, who was working in a restaurant. Bindu has acted in films like Bajrangi, Police Quarters, and Kalabhairava, and done a number of roles in Kannada TV serials, The Indian Express reported.

How the murder came to light

Police said the murder took place on February 18 but came to light only on March 1 after neighbours experienced a foul smell coming from the locked house, and recovered Krishna’s body inside it.

The cops said that Krishna had separated from his wife and was living with Bindu. Bindu was also not staying with her husband. Two months back, they rented a house in Vijayalakshmi Layout, which is in the purview of the Bagalagunte police station. The couple had said that they would be leaving the house soon, and so, the landlord did not make an official rent agreement, the police added.

What exactly happened

Soon after neighbours found Krishna’s body inside the house, they informed the Bagalagunte police. The police started a probe immediately. Police found that Vinay and Dhanush had been frequently visiting the house and developed a good rapport with the Krishna and Bindu. The cops came to know that Bindu had allegedly fallen in love with co-accused Vinay. Vinay had allegedly voiced his wish to marry her. A police officer reportedly said that as the two feared that Krishna would prevent them from tying the nuptial knot, they made a plan to eliminate him and clear the obstacle. The two roped in Dhanush in the plot.

Police said on February 18, Krishna, Bindu, Vinay, and Dhanush organised a party at the house. Krishna got drunk during the party and tried to sexually assault Bindu. An angry Vinay then allegedly stabbed Krishna multiple times with a knife. To muffle his screams, the trio pasted cello tape around his mouth and nose, choking him to death, the police claimed. After Krishna died of suffocation, the three locked the house and fled the place, the police said.

Police arrested the accused after tracking their cellphone location and call data records. The three were booked under Section 103 (murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Police are now gathering forensic evidence, piecing together the sequence of events and preparing the chargesheet. The court proceedings will start soon.
