New Delhi: English Premier League champions Liverpool are leaving no stone unturned in strengthening their squad for the new season as they continue to make ambitious moves in the summer transfer window. After signing German playmaker Floriant Wirtz for a club record sum of £116m ($156 million), Liverpool are set to break the bank for French striker Hugo Ekitike.
Liverpool have reportedly submitted an offer worth 90 million euros ($105 million) for the Eintracht Frankfurt striker, including add-ons. Ekitike is one of the best young strikers available in the market at present and has been linked with multiple top clubs, including Manchester United, Newcastle and Chelsea.
However, Liverpool are close to landing the striker from the German club. As per The Athletic, Liverpool made an improved second offer to Frankfurt for Ekitike on Saturday, and the two clubs now have the outline of an agreement for the player’s transfer this summer.
As per The Athletic, the offer made by Liverpool is a huge one and that “there is optimism at Frankfurt that it would represent a club-record sale”. This means the overall fee, including all performance-related add-ons for Ekitike, might surpass the fee of 95 million euros ($110.5 million) that Eintracht Frankfurt earned from the sale of French striker Randal Kolo Muani in 2023.
Liverpool have moved for Ekitike after testing the waters for Newcastle striker Alexander Isak. The Premier League champions were ready to offer a huge sum of up to £120 million ($160.09 million) to Newcastle for the Swedish striker, however, the club made it clear that Isak was not for sale.
How many goals did Hugo Ekitike scored last season
23-year-old Ekitike was relatively an unknown name before enjoying a stellar campaign for Eintracht Frankfurt last season. Ekitike scored 22 goals in 48 matches for Frankfurt across all competitions, while helping the club qualify for the Champions League. Interestingly, the young French striker’s playing style has been compared to Isak’s by many.
