BCCI has imposed strict restrictions on Indian players during the T20 World Cup. To increase discipline, families and wives of players will not be allowed to be together. This decision has been taken after the defeat against Australia.
Mumbai: BCCI has imposed strict restrictions on Indian players in the T20 World Cup. The board has made it clear that wives and other family members will not be allowed to stay together during the World Cup matches. BCCI has taken this step by canceling the exemptions given earlier on foreign tours. According to the Indian Express report, the team management had sought clarity from the board on this matter, but BCCI has adopted a strict stance of not making any changes in its existing policy.
BCCI has implemented this strict policy after the 1-3 defeat to Australia in the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy. The support staff had reported that some players did not attend team meetings and planning sessions during the tour and were instead spending time with their families, which was a factor in the defeat. Due to this, BCCI has reinstated the old restrictions to increase discipline in the team.
As per BCCI policy, on foreign tours longer than 45 days, family members are allowed to be accompanied only for a maximum of 14 days. In important tournaments like the World Cup, family members are not allowed to stay with the players. If family members wish to travel together, they will have to make arrangements for accommodation outside the players’ hotel at their own expense.
For the World Cup, players are using private charter planes instead of team buses. Personal chefs have also been kept together to take care of the diet of the players. However, they are also not allowed to stay in the team hotel. They will have to stay at some other place near the hotel, cook food and deliver it to the players.
In the first match of the T20 World Cup, India won against America due to the brilliant batting of captain Suryakumar Yadav. Now India will face Namibia at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on Thursday, February 12. After this, the team will leave for the match against Pakistan in Colombo on 15 February.
