Just a few days after ending a disappointing campaign in the Asia Cup 2025, Afghanistan cricket team will host Bangladesh in a three-match T20I series beginning at Sharjah Cricket Stadium on Thursday.
Afghans failed to progress to the Super 4 stage in the Asia Cup 2025 in the UAE.Bangladesh, on the other hand, stunned Afghanistan in their league match in Asia Cup to move into the Super 4. They also stunned Sri Lanka in their opening Super 4 match and will be coming into this T20I series full of confidence, although they lost to Pakistan and India in their last two matches.

Jaker Ali’s Bangladesh have, in fact, won three out of the last 5 T20I matches against Afghanistan dating back to 2022. Regular skipper Litton Das has been ruled out of the series due to a side strain which forced him to miss last two Asia Cup matches against India and Pakistan.

The series will see return of Bangladesh all-rounder Soumya Sarkar to the side as well. Afghanistan skipper Rashid Khan believes this series is critical for build-up to the ICC T20 World Cup 2026 early next year.

“I think every game is very competitive. It is not like we did not play competitive cricket in Asia Cup. For us, each and every game is competitive. We are not here just to have fun, enjoy, and then go back. We have a target, and the target is how we are going to be a perfect and balanced side for the next World Cup and that’s the mindset from now on,” Rashid Khan said ahead of the first T20I match.
