Tomato prices have reached record levels in Pakistan.
Bankrupt Pakistan is currently facing a serious economic crisis. Now another problem has arisen in front of the neighboring country. In fact, tomato prices have reached a different level in Pakistan. According to reports, tomatoes are now being sold at a record rate of Rs 700 per kg in most big cities including Lahore and Karachi. Till a few weeks ago, tomatoes were being sold at Rs 100 per kg. This huge surge in tomato prices has made life difficult for common people. Apart from local factors, the increase in tomato prices is also due to disruption in trade with Afghanistan.
According to Pakistan’s Sama TV, floods have destroyed crops in large parts of the country, disrupting trade and causing tomato prices to reach record highs due to lack of supply. The supply of tomatoes from Afghanistan to Pakistan has also been affected. Following border tensions and a ban on Afghan exports, prices of tomatoes and many other vegetables have increased across Pakistan, especially in big cities.
