Afghanistan–Pakistan conflict escalates as Kabul claims 55 Pakistani soldiers killed, Islamabad says 274 Taliban fighters dead

New Delhi: In a major development in the Afghanistan-Pakistan war, tensions have risen into an all-out conflict between the two countries. Pakistan has bombed Afghanistan’s major cities, including the capital Kabul, claiming to have killed over 200 Taliban fighters.

Pakistan’s Defence Minister Khawaja Asif declared that Islamabad would be waging open war against Afghanistan. Asif also said that Pakistan’s patience has run out with the Taliban, following the Afghanistan attack on the Pakistani military on their shared border.

Afghanistan and Pakistan both claimed significant losses on the other while sustaining their own casualties. Pakistan’s forces claimed 274 Taliban fighters have been killed in their operation, with over 400 fighters sustaining injuries. They hit 22 locations in Afghanistan. Additionally, the Pakistani military destroyed 83 posts and captured 17 Taliban posts.

The Pakistan military force also said that 12 of their soldiers had been killed, while 27 sustained injuries and one was missing after the operation.

On the other hand, Afghanistan’s Ministry of Defence claimed to have killed 55 Pakistani soldiers, including several soldiers who were captured, and some bodies were taken to Afghanistan.

From Afghanistan’s side, they said eight Taliban soldiers lost their lives, and 11 were injured during the attack.
