Actor Aditya Roy Kapur once drank so much while preparing for a scene in Aashiqui 2 that the shoot had to be wrapped up for the day, the actor revealed during an appearance on filmmaker Karan Johar’s popular chat show Koffee With Karan.
Aditya, who played an alcoholic musician in the 2013 romantic drama, appeared on the show alongside his co-star Shraddha Kapoor. During the conversation, Johar asked whether the actor had actually consumed alcohol to prepare for some of his scenes.
Aditya acknowledged that he had tried the approach, explaining that it eventually affected his ability to deliver his dialogue.
“I tried my hand at it. It was the only right thing to do as an actor. I tried it; we packed up one day. Otherwise you are slurring your lines,” he said.
Shraddha added a playful remark about the experience, saying, “Fully slurring, but it was fun to watch.”
‘Aashiqui 2’ and Its Enduring Popularity
Directed by Mohit Suri, Aashiqui 2 follows the troubled relationship between Rahul Jaykar, a singer played by Aditya, and Aarohi Keshav Shirke, an aspiring singer portrayed by Shraddha. As Rahul struggles with alcoholism and his temperament, his personal problems begin to affect their relationship and their musical ambitions.
Produced by Bhushan Kumar and Mukesh Bhatt under the banners of T-Series Films and Vishesh Films, the film served as a spiritual successor to the 1990 musical romance Aashiqui.
Released on April 26, 2013, the film became a commercial success despite featuring relatively new leads and ranked among the highest-grossing Hindi films of that year.
Its popularity subsequently extended beyond Hindi cinema, with a Telugu remake titled Nee Jathaga Nenundali released in 2014.
The film has retained a strong following among audiences, with its soundtrack continuing to enjoy popularity. The songs also played a significant role in the rise of playback singer Arijit Singh, whose career received a major boost from the film’s music.
More than a decade after its release, Aashiqui 2 remains closely associated with its emotionally charged love story, memorable songs and the performances of its lead actors.
