Adani appoints Padma Bhushan awardee Hafeez Contractor to redesign Dharavi

Transforming Dharavi: Gautam Adani, in collaboration with Mumbai’s slum rehabilitation authority, has enlisted a global team for the ambitious overhaul of Dharavi, including the renowned architect Hafeez Contractor, along with US design firm Sasaki and UK consultancy firm Buro Happold.

Known as the architect behind the 3 tallest buildings in India, Contractor brings in the experience and efficiency to execute a project of this scale and gravitas.

The project aims to transform the crowded area, equivalent to three-quarters of New York’s Central Park, and home to numerous impoverished families lacking basic amenities.

Who is Hafeez Contractor?

Hafeez Contractor is a renowned Indian architect celebrated for his innovative contributions to the architectural landscape of India. Born in Mumbai, he established his firm, Architect Hafeez Contractor (AHC), which has grown into one of the country’s leading architectural firms, known for giving three tallest structures in the country.

Contractor’s architectural designs span a wide range of projects, including residential complexes, commercial spaces, and public infrastructure. His style is often characterised by modern aesthetics combined with functionality, reflecting a deep understanding of urban challenges.

Hafeez Contractor’s major projects include The Imperial and Imperial Towers in Mumbai which remained the tallest buildings in India between 2010 to 2018, Infosys Global Education Centre in Mysore, Mantri Pinnacle, the tallest building of Bangalore, DY Patil Sports Stadium in Navi Mumbai and the well-known THE 42 of Kolkata.
