Bollywood actress and producer Kirti Kulhari has allegedly fallen victim to a cyber fraud, with unidentified criminals reportedly siphoning off ₹2.43 lakh from her credit card through unauthorised transactions.
A case has been registered at Amboli Police Station in Mumbai on the basis of a complaint filed by the actress. According to the FIR, Kulhari, who resides in Versova and is involved in acting and film production, was at a Cinepolis theatre near Fun Republic Mall in Andheri West when she received an alert regarding a suspicious foreign transaction.
The actress was informed through a bank notification that a payment of $2,525 had been made to Aeromexico using her credit card. After noticing the unauthorised transaction, she immediately contacted the bank’s customer care helpline.
During the bank’s verification process, officials informed her that four separate major transactions had been carried out using her credit card without her consent. The card was subsequently blocked as a precautionary measure.
In her statement to the police, Kulhari said that her credit card password was confidential and had not been shared with anyone. Investigators suspect that her phone or card details may have been compromised through digital malware or spyware.
The Mumbai Police Cyber Cell has started an investigation and is examining bank transaction details, reference numbers and digital footprints to trace the accused.
Meanwhile, the actress recently announced the completion of the shoot of her first feature film as a producer. Sharing the update on social media, Kulhari reflected on the journey behind the project and said that life had taught her there is a “right time for everything”.
