Tamil Nadu government has made a major reshuffle of 70 IPS officers before the elections. This includes promotions and transfers of officers from DIG to DGP ranks. Its objective is to improve administrative functioning and maintain law and order.
Chennai : The Tamil Nadu government has promoted and transferred 70 Indian Police Service (IPS) officers, including senior ranks from DIG to DGP, ahead of the likely announcement of assembly elections. An official said late on Tuesday night that the purpose of this reshuffle is to improve the administrative functioning in the entire state and to handle the changing priorities of law and order.
Three additional directors general of police (ADGPs) have been promoted to DGP rank: Davidson Devasivatham (Armed Police), Sandeep Mittal (Cyber Crime), and Balangadevi (Economic Offenses Wing, with additional charge of Civil Supplies CID). Prem Anand Sinha has been made ADGP and Police Commissioner, Avadi, Anisha Hussain has been made ADGP, Women and Child Crime, Najmal Hoda has been made ADGP, Operations, Mahesh Kumar Rathod has been made ADGP, Welfare.
After promotion, other senior officers will remain on central deputation or special wing.
There have been major changes in many commissionerates. Avadi Commissioner Shankar has been sent to the prison department as ADGP, while ADGP Enforcement Amalraj has taken over as Tambaram Police Commissioner. In the second major transfer, Abhin Dinesh Modak, Maheshwar Dayal and Senthil Kumar have been given the role of Senior ADGP.
Several SPs have been promoted to the post of DIG and transferred to different ranges, which include: Shashank Sai — DIG, Kanchipuram Range, Deshmukh Shekhar Sanjay — DIG, Ramanathapuram Range, Arul Arasu — DIG, Villupuram Range, Saravanan — DIG, Tirunelveli Range.
Several joint commissioners and IG-rank officers in Chennai and other zones have also got new postings.
The reshuffle also includes district-level postings in cyber crime, economic offences, administration and central crime units. Key officers promoted include Adarsh Pachori, Sai Praneeth, Selvakumar, Umayal and Madhan.
Officials have described the major reshuffle as a strategic move to ensure effective policing and administrative preparedness ahead of the state elections, which has affected senior, mid-level and district-level IPS officers.
