New Delhi: Delhi Police registered a case against Blinkit, the online grocery delivery platform, for selling button knives or button lock knives, used in two murders.
The action against the online grocery platform was taken after two murder accused confessed to purchasing folding pocket knives, which they used for the crime, through the app.
The police, in their probe, found that two people arrested in connection with two separate murder cases in Delhi’s Khyala area bought the knives used in both crimes from Blinkit. The police then posed as customers and purchased the same knife easily from the platform.
As per the government regulations, only knives with blades measuring up to 7.62 cm in length and 1.72 cm in width can be sold online. Selling anything larger violates Arms Act and is considered a criminal offence. The knife delivered to the police measured 8 cm in length and 2.5 cm in width, exceeding legal limits.
Following this, police raided several Blinkit stores in Delhi, seizing more than a dozen knives. A case has been registered against the e-commerce platform for selling such knives, reportedly priced at Rs 699.
A notice will soon be sent to Blinkit.
