Accused arrested in Rs 1 crore theft at Lopamudra Raut’s Santacruz flat

Santacruz Police have arrested a 26-year-old man from Bihar’s Darbhanga district in connection with the theft of valuables worth more than Rs 1 crore from the Mumbai residence of actress-model and former ‘Bigg Boss 10’ contestant Lopamudra Raut.

The accused, identified as Chandan Mukhiya, a resident of Goth Mitti village in Darbhanga, allegedly broke into Raut’s fifth-floor flat in Santacruz after conducting a recce of the property. Police said he entered the residence when it was unoccupied and stole valuables from the actress’ bedroom.

Stolen property worth around Rs 51 lakh, including a luxury watch, two gold biscuits and cash, has been recovered from the accused, police said.

According to investigators, Mukhiya had been scouting locked houses in Mumbai and would allegedly return to Bihar by train after committing thefts. Police traced him using technical intelligence, including mobile phone details and location-based information.

After the investigation led to Darbhanga, a Mumbai Police team travelled to the district and, with assistance from local police, conducted a raid in an area under the jurisdiction of Sonki police station.

Police are yet to recover the remaining stolen valuables and are investigating whether Mukhiya had accomplices. Investigators are also examining the possibility that he used part of the stolen money to purchase around two gunthas of land in his sister’s name.

Further investigation is underway to trace the remaining property and establish the full extent of the accused’s involvement in similar thefts.
