Mystery in Al-Falah University: Haryana’s Al-Falah University is under the radar of security forces and investigating agencies these days. This is because Mirza Shadab Baig, a student associated with the university, is allegedly an Indian Mujahideen (IM) operative and his name has cropped up in at least five blasts across the country. These include the 2008 Ahmedabad serial bomb blasts and the recent deadly blast near the Red Fort, in which 13 people died.
Did Mirza Shadab Baig take terrorism training in the university itself?
According to sources, Mirza Shadab Baig completed B.Tech Electronics from Al-Falah University in 2007. During this time, he allegedly started preparing for terrorist attacks. It is reported that he purchased explosives from Karnataka and planned to carry out blasts at many places across the country.
Mystery of Red Fort blast: What is the connection with the university?
More than 200 doctors and staff members are now under investigation in the Red Fort blast investigation. At least three doctors from Al-Falah University – Dr. Muzammil Ganai, Dr. Omar Un Nabi and Dr. Shaheen Shahid – have been arrested. The National Investigation Agency (NIA) started investigating the Red Fort blast from November 10. On 17 November, Umar un Nabi’s co-conspirator Jasir Bilal Wani was arrested in Srinagar. Vani, also known as Danish, was allegedly involved in modifying drones and providing technical support for car bomb blasts.

The Crime Branch has registered two FIRs after the UGC and NAAC exposed alleged “major irregularities” in the functioning of the university. One on charges of fraud and forgery, and the other for regulatory violations. This made it clear that there were some serious irregularities within the university.
