New Delhi: The president of the Delhi unit of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and former Chairman of the Delhi Jal Board and Minister of Health, Urban Development and Water, Saurabh Bhardwaj, on Wednesday took to X and slammed the Delhi government led by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta for the increasing pollution in the Yamuna River ahead of Chhath Puja.
He posted, “BIG BREAKING News: Today, there is a video of Yamuna Ji from 5:45 AM. The Yamuna Ji is filled with pollution and foam. Today, their true colors have been exposed.” He posted a video along with the post that showed white foam on the Yamuna River.
BIG BREAKING News
pic.twitter.com/eFL5RUeYQ4

What did CM Gupta say about Yamuna pollution?
Recently, Delhi CM Gupta said that the Yamuna River will be cleaned and the froth over the river will not be seen this year during the Chhath celebrations. She said that fast-paced work is on to the rejuvenation of the Yamuna. She said that just like there was not waterlogging at Minto Bridge this monsoon, people of Delhi will not see toxic foam in the Yamuna this Chhath.
The toxic foam in the Yamuna usually appears around winter due to sewage and industrial effluent discharge in the river. Every year, images of devotees offering Chhath prayers in foam filled water had drawn severe criticism from the Delhi government from Opposition leaders, and environment activists.
She said that the river is being cleaned by the government and “I hope with time, the government will restore the clean Yamuna river.” She added that the Delhi Jal Board and Delhi Water Minister are working hard to clean the river and they will not see any toxic foam in Yamuna during Chhath celebrations.
AAP-BJP in verbal battle
Earlier, AAP MLA Sanjeev Jha shared visuals from Kalindi Kunj Ghat, accusing the government of ignoring the pollution crisis. Meanwhile, the Delhi BJP has hit back, blaming former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and Minister Saurabh Bhardwaj for failing to clean the Yamuna despite years of promises. As politics heats up, the river remains choked with froth, a grim reminder of Delhi’s unending pollution woes.
