Team India skipper Shubman Gill made a hilarious quip to Ravindra Jadeja on day one of the second Test against England at Edgbaston in Birmingham.
The right-handed batter yelled to Jadeja ‘Aankhon hee aankhon mein’, denoting how they merely had to communicate with their eyes to complete the run, drawing a laugh from the all-rounder.
The incident occurred when off-spinner Shoaib Bashir was bowling and Gill nudged one to the on-side and they set off for a quick single. After getting to the non-striker’s end, Gill yelled ‘Aankhon hee aankhon mein’ (Just through the eyes’) as the duo completed the run easily.
Shubman Gill and Ravindra Jadeja power India past 300 to give themselves upper hand at Edgbaston
Meanwhile, Gill and Jadeja handled the tricky situation of the contest with utmost maturity on day one at Edgbaston. Jadeja joined hands with Gill after the tourists had succumbed to 211/5 as Chris Woakes got the better of Nitish Kumar Reddy for 1 when the seam-bowling all-rounder tried to leave the ball.
With Team India’s tail being vulnerable after their poor show in the opening Test in Leeds, the hosts smelt blood. But Gill and Jadeja have shared an unbroken 99-run stand to power their side to 310/5 in the 85 overs bowled on day one.
Gill remained unbeaten at 101, while Jadeja stayed not out at 41. Earlier Yashasvi Jaiswal had also chipped in with a brisk 87-run knock. The tourists will look to target a total of minimum of 400 and keeping England on the field for as long as possible.
