UIDAI has introduced a new feature in the new Aadhaar app. Now you can update your Aadhaar mobile number through OTP and face authentication sitting at home. For this there will be no need to go to Aadhaar center now.

New Delhi: Now you can update the mobile number linked to your Aadhar card while sitting at home. Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has introduced a feature in the new Aadhaar app through which Aadhaar mobile number can be updated through OTP and face authentication at home. With the introduction of this facility in the Aadhaar app, you will no longer need to go to the Aadhaar center or stand in line to update the mobile number linked to Aadhaar. Till now, one had to visit the enrollment center to update Aadhaar mobile number. But now instead you can update your phone number in just a few moments from your mobile phone.

On opening the new Aadhaar app, you will see an option of ‘Mobile Number Update’. Soon the facility to update information like name, address and email address will also be available through the Aadhaar app. However, the option to update the date of birth is not currently available in the app. There will be no online facility to update biometric information like fingerprint and iris scan on Aadhaar card. To update biometric information in Aadhaar, you will have to go to Aadhaar Enrollment Centre. According to the current update, only the option to update mobile number has been made available through the Aadhaar app.

Since it is an OTP-based service, it is necessary to have an active SIM card to link the mobile number with Aadhaar card. Opening a bank account and many government services also require OTP-based service.
