UIDAI has launched the official mascot of Aadhaar ‘Uday’. Its objective is to make information related to Aadhaar services simple and accessible. This mascot was selected through a national competition, the winner of which is Arun Gokul of Kerala.

Thiruvananthapuram: Arun Gokul from Thrissur, Kerala has won the first position in the national level competition organized to design the official mascot of Aadhaar. At a UIDAI event in Thiruvananthapuram, Chairman Neelkanth Mishra unveiled the official mascot and congratulated the winners. He said that this mascot is another important step in the continuous efforts of UIDAI to make information related to Aadhaar services more simple, inclusive and easy to understand for more than 100 crore Indians.

CEO Bhuvnesh Kumar said that by inviting citizens to design and name this official mascot through an open national competition, UIDAI has reaffirmed a core principle of Aadhaar. He emphasized that participation increases trust and acceptance. He also said that the overwhelming response to this contest is a testament to how deeply Aadhaar is connected with the people as a public service. Vivek C. Verma, Deputy Director General, UIDAI, said that as this official mascot begins its journey as an assistant and storyteller, it will help citizens understand Aadhaar related information much easier.

To ease the understanding of the general public about Aadhaar services, the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) today released the official mascot of Aadhaar. This mascot named ‘Uday’ will help in making Aadhaar related information more relevant and easy for people. This will simplify interactions about different Aadhaar services like updating Aadhaar information, authentication, offline verification, selective information sharing, new technology adoption and responsible usage.

To actualize this goal, UIDAI adopted an open and inclusive approach by conducting design and name finding competitions at the national level through the MyGov platform. It received a great response from across the country. UIDAI received 875 entries from people from different walks of life like students, professionals, designers etc. Each entry was a unique interpretation of what Aadhaar meant to them. To ensure fairness and accuracy in the selection process, evaluation method was adopted at different levels. Through this process, a beautiful creation has emerged, which has emerged from the imagination of the general public and which has been polished with institutional precision.

In the competition organized to design the official mascot of Aadhaar, Arun Gokul from Thrissur, Kerala won the first position, while Idris Dawaiwala from Pune, Maharashtra came second and Krishna Sharma from Ghazipur, Uttar Pradesh came third. Riya Jain from Bhopal won the first place in the competition to name the official mascot. Idris Dawaiwala of Pune and Maharaj Sharan Chellappilla of Hyderabad secured second and third position respectively.
