Let us tell you that on January 7, America seized the first Russian-flagged oil tanker, Marinera, in the North Atlantic. And, just a few hours later, another ship, Sophia, was caught in the Caribbean Sea. To protect its ships, Russia sent submarines and other naval ships, but they could not save it.

The Russian ship captured by America was earlier named Bela-1. America had put it in the list of banned ships. In December 2025, it was heading towards Venezuela, but the US Coast Guard was not able to catch it then.

The US Coast Guard had a warrant to seize the ship. America alleges that the ship was carrying Iranian oil in flagrant violation of American sanctions. Then this ship was registered under the flag of Guyana, but after this the name of this ship was changed to ‘Marinera’.

The length of the ‘Marinera’ ship is 333 meters and weight is 3.18 lakh tonnes. It is used to transport crude oil over long distances. At the same time, Sophia crude oil tanker is 336 meters long and weighs 3.19 lakh tonnes.

Let us tell you that the Marinera ship was going towards Venezuela, but due to fear of the American Coast Guard, it changed its route and turned towards the Atlantic. Later, Britain also supported America in capturing this ship and provided its land. That means the US Army used British airports to capture the tanker.
