What is this 25 year old incident?
This incident is from Haryana. Police constable Jagmal Singh worked in CID police department. The special thing is that Jagmal Singh was handling the responsibility of CID Dog Squad. Although the job of taking care of the CID dogs was given to Constable Pramod Kumar, the monitoring had to be done by Jagmal Singh only. This is the year 2000, the night of 19th June. There was a wedding ceremony in the neighborhood of police constable Jagmal Singh in Haryana. Many people including Jagmal Singh were invited. Jagmal Singh had attended the program with his family. They had a trained CID dog named Laika at home, who ran away amid the noise of the wedding dinner and loud music.

Laika dog was searched on the night of 19 June and throughout the next day, but was not found. Initially Jagmal Singh thought that he would be somewhere here, but later searched everywhere. But no trace of him was found. On the evening of 22 June, Jagmal Singh informed his senior police officers about the dog’s disappearance. CID had high expectations from this police dog Laika. The disappearance of this dog became a headache for senior officials. A case was registered against Jagmal Singh.

A case was registered against him accusing him of negligence and hiding the matter by not giving immediate information to senior officials. The internal report of the police in the investigation found constable Jagmal Singh guilty. Senior officers punished Jagmal Singh for the mistake. The increase in his salary was stopped and the process of making him permanent was also put on hold. This was a big blow for Jagmal Singh who was expecting a minor punishment. Therefore, Jagmal Singh approached the Haryana High Court.
Dog found after a month
On one hand, a legal battle started immediately after the sentencing. Meanwhile, the missing dog Laika was found after a month. The dog was returned without any problems. But the punishment given to Jagmal Singh remained the same. On one hand, Jagmal Singh, who started the legal battle, worked for 25 years without salary increase and without becoming permanent. A missing dog case went on for 25 years. But Jagmal Singh did not lose courage and continued fighting. Now on December 24, Haryana High Court has given its verdict on this matter.
The court has given its verdict in favor of Jagmal Singh. The court said that the punishment given in the case of missing dog was very severe. This is not a fair punishment. It is not right to give such a huge punishment for a small mistake. After 25 years, Jagmal Singh will now be able to sleep peacefully.
