Karnataka: A late night attempt at revenge took a dangerous turn in Karnataka’s Govindpura village. Here a man had gone to burn his elder brother’s house, but in this attempt he himself got badly burnt. The entire incident was captured in the CCTV cameras installed in the house, which shows that during the attempt, the accused burst into flames after petrol fell on his hands and clothes. The man has been identified as Muniraju and is currently undergoing treatment at a hospital in Bengaluru. The police have registered a case against him and are waiting for him to be discharged from the hospital to arrest him.
Incident captured in CCTV
According to the police, Muniraju had reached the house of his elder brother Ramakrishna around midnight with the intention of setting the property on fire. CCTV footage shows that he first closes the main door from outside and then pours petrol around the house. As soon as he tried to set fire to petrol, the fire suddenly broke out and spread rapidly. Since petrol had already fallen on his hands and clothes, Muniraju was instantly engulfed in flames.

Neighbors ran to save
Hearing the screams of Muniraju, the neighbors reached the spot without any delay. They extinguished the fire and pulled him away from the burning area, thereby averting the incident from becoming fatal. He was first taken to Hoskote Hospital with severe burns and later shifted to Victoria Hospital in Bengaluru for better treatment.
Money dispute due to revenge
Police investigation revealed that the root of this incident was a long-running money dispute within the family. It is being told that Muniraju was running a chit fund scheme in the village for the last eight years, in which he suffered huge losses. When villagers started demanding the money back, the family sold a part of their land to repay some of the amount. However, tensions rose when Muniraju reportedly insisted on selling the remaining land as well—a demand which his elder brother Ramakrishna refused to accede to. Investigators believe that this disagreement prompted Muniraju to seek revenge by attempting to burn down his brother’s house.
Case registered, awaiting arrest
Tirumalashettyhalli police have registered a case against Muniraju on charges of attempt to murder. Authorities have confirmed that he will be formally arrested as soon as he is released from the hospital. Further investigation is ongoing.
