A video of a woman from Kerala has gone viral, in which she talks to vloggers in fluent English while carrying a bundle of wood on her head. People are praising the confidence and spontaneity of the woman, calling it a symbol of the high literacy of the state.

This video of ‘God’s Own Country’ i.e. Kerala was shared by a travel vlogger, which has now gone viral. People are calling this video the ‘real Kerala story’ and praising the woman a lot.

This video has been shared on an Instagram page named ‘Eco Traveller’. It is run by a Malayali youth who is on a cycling trip to Singapore with his Delhi-based friend. In the video, it is seen that a woman is crossing the bridge carrying a heavy bundle of dry wood on her head. As soon as she sees the vloggers, she asks, “Are you guys YouTubers?”
After this a conversation starts between them. The woman speaks in English thinking they are from outside Kerala. Even when she learns that one of the young men is a Malayali, she continues to speak in English.
The woman asked which state they were from and whether they were going to Munnar on bicycle. On this the young man told that he was going to Singapore on bicycle. Hearing this, the woman jokingly asked, “Can I also come along?” On this the vlogger said that you are a strong woman. The woman replied, “I am not that strong, I get strength by working every day.” After this the woman said, “I have not gone anywhere. I will live in Kerala and die in Kerala only.”

The video, shared with the caption “Kerala Literacy”, quickly went viral. About 17 lakh people have liked this video. Most of the people who watched the video praised the woman’s English. Many users wrote that even common women in Kerala, who do daily work, speak English with such confidence and ease.
