Varun Chakravarthy bowls his joint-most expensive T20 over as SRH smash highest powerplay score of IPL 2026

New Delhi: Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) spinner Varun Chakravarthy has bowled his joint-most expensive over in T20s during the IPL 2026 clash against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the Eden Gardens on Thursday, April 2. He has been in poor form since the T20 World Cup 2026 and has also conceded 48 runs in 4 overs against the Mumbai Indians.

Chakravarthy gave away 25 runs in the fifth over of the match against SRH, which is the joint-most he has conceded after the clash against KXIP (now PBKS) in IPL 2019. Abhishek Sharma smashed a maximum over long-on on the first ball of Chakravarthy’s over. The SRH opener then hit another maximum over the same region on the third ball, before striking three boundaries on the last three deliveries.

SRH smash highest powerplay score of IPL 2026

After being asked to bat first by KKR captain Ajinkya Rahane, SRH smashed the highest powerplay score of the IPL 2026. Abhishek and Travis Head played attacking shots from the first over and stitched an 82-run partnership for the opening wicket. Kartik Tyagi removed Head for 46 runs in the last over of the powerplay, but the damage had already been done by then.

KKR’s bowling performance in the first six overs has been poor, with Vaibhav Arora leaking runs early on. Kartik Tyagi managed to dismiss Head but still conceded runs at a high economy rate. Sunil Narine bowled well and was the most economical bowler so far. After the powerplay, Blessing Muzarabani stopped the run scoring by removing Ishan (14) and Abhishek Sharma (48) in the same over.
