Changing LPG cylinders has so far been a hassle, lifting the heavy steel cylinder, dealing with rusted cylinders and not being able to predict when the gas will run out. Moreover, there is no lift in your house and you live 2-3 floors above, then the problem increases further. But Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) has now found a solution to this problem and launched a new premium product, which has been named Bharatgas Lite ZIP. It started from Mumbai and now the company plans to extend it to 100 more cities in 24 states by August 15. Let us understand the answer to every important question related to this in simple language.
Question- What is Bharatgas Lite ZIP?
answer- This is a new premium LPG service of BPCL, which was launched by the company’s Chairman and Managing Director Sanjay Khanna. Its specialty is that it offers both ‘Instant New Connection’ and ‘Express Delivery’ facilities together. This means that there will be no delay in getting a new connection and the cylinder will also reach home quickly. This entire service is based on BPCL’s already existing light composite cylinder ‘Bharatgas Lite’, on top of which this fast delivery model has been added.
Question- What will be the benefit to common customers?
answer- The biggest advantage is time saving. The entire process of getting a connection will now be done almost instantly, so that there will be no need to visit the office or dealer again and again. Apart from this, facilities like 100% digital booking and OTP based delivery verification have also been added, which will reduce the scope for fraud and make the entire system transparent.
Question- Will the gas last longer?
answer- No, there should be no misunderstanding here. There is no change in the quantity of gas or its consumption in this cylinder. The advantage is only in terms of weight, handling and service speed of the cylinder, the quantity of gas or its running period will remain the same as before.
Question- What will be the price?
answer- New customers can get Bharatgas Lite connection directly by paying a security deposit of Rs 2,500, while customers who already have an old steel cylinder can get it replaced with a composite cylinder by paying an additional deposit of Rs 300. This means it is very cheap for existing customers to switch. The price of remaining refills will remain as per the normal LPG rates, there is no separate charge attached to it.
Question- In which cities will it be available?
answer- Currently this service has started only in Mumbai. The company plans to expand it to 100 cities in 24 states by August 15, after which it will be gradually rolled out in other big cities as well. That means, if your city is not in the list yet, then this facility can reach there also in a few weeks.
Question- For whom is it most beneficial?
answer- This service has been specially designed keeping in mind the working professionals, students and people who frequently change cities. That is, those people who have to get a new connection frequently and find it difficult to shift heavy items again and again. Apart from this, elderly people, people living alone and women will also feel relieved because the lighter cylinder becomes easier to lift and carry.
Question- Will the old steel cylinders be discontinued?
Answer- At present there is no such indication. The supply of steel cylinders will continue and switching is entirely at the discretion of the customer. Those who are satisfied with the steel cylinder can continue using it. The new option is only for those who want change.
Question- Will Indane and HP also bring light cylinders?
answer- This is not a new thing. Indane is already selling light composite cylinders, for which a security deposit of Rs 2,200 for 5 kg and Rs 3,500 for 10 kg is taken. That means BPCL is not the only company which is working in this direction, rather the entire LPG sector is gradually moving towards composite cylinders.
Question- Is it stronger or weaker than iron?
answer- It is not behind in any way in terms of strength. Composite cylinder is made from layers of fiberglass and resin, due to which its burst pressure capacity is almost double that of steel cylinder. Besides, it does not face problems like rusting, welding joints or seam weakening, which become common problems in steel cylinders with time.
Question- Will it not explode quickly if caught on fire?
answer- This is a matter of biggest concern, but from design point of view it turns out to be beneficial. When a steel cylinder catches fire, the pressure inside suddenly increases and the metal can weaken and burst. At the same time, the outer layer of the composite cylinder melts slowly in the fire and the gas slowly comes out through micro-channels, due to which a situation like sudden explosion does not arise. That is, the design itself has been made in such a way that instead of bursting suddenly, it releases gas in a controlled manner, which is considered better than traditional cylinders in terms of safety.
