Thane: Thane police took a former army personnel in custody over a violent shoot in the Mumbra area that left one person dead and two others injured. The incident took place in the Kailash Nagar locality of the city. The accused has been identified as Jayan Shivanandan Nair

Sharing details of the incident, the police said that the accused opened fire on a group due to a personal dispute that was going on for some time. The entire matter started after allegations of harassment involving Nair’s relative. The dispute further increased on Thursday after Nair allegedly fired nearly five rounds, the Free Press Journal reported.
Victims admitted to the hospital
The victims have been identified as Akbar Abdul Shaikh (29), Abdul Hasan Shaikh (45), and Samir Ahmed Shaikh (32). After the firing, all three were taken to Kalsekar Hospital. Of them, Akbar Abdul Shaikh was declared dead. The other two victims continue to remain under the medical observation of doctors.
After the incident, the accused tried to flee, but he was intercepted by local officials. The weapon used in firing has also been seized by the police. Senior police officials reached the scene shortly after the incident. A forensic team was also deployed the spot to collect the evidence.
Thorough probe on
According to the police, while the prime motive seemed to be the dispute over the alleged harassment of the woman, A thorough probe is being done to rule out any other underlying factors.
They further said that an FIR has been filed in the case under the relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Arms Act.
The area where the incident took place was under heavy police guard for a few hours to maintain law and order. Officials also appealed to the public to remain calm as the probe continues in the case.
