Government will increase carbon capture incentive, project will get up to 100% funding

Coal is still playing an important role in the energy needs of the country. This is the reason why India is preparing to start a national carbon capture initiative, in which big incentives will be given by the government. Its purpose is to balance between increasing energy needs and climate round. This information has been given by a senior official of NITI Aayog on Thursday.

Energy advisor Rajneesh Ram in NITI Aayog says that this initiative will be focused on promoting carbon capture, utilization and storage techniques. The government can provide funding assistance ranging from 50% to 100% to selected projects with these techniques. Carbon capture incentive means the financial help provided by the government, so that the industry and power plant can store harmful gases like carbon dioxide (co₂) directly in the air instead of releasing it in the air or use it in some work.

Country of the country is constantly increasing

The official said that these will help incentive industries adopt carbon capture technology and connect them with coal-based energy system. He was speaking at a coal conference organized by the Board of Commerce of India. Ram said that India’s electricity consumption is continuously increasing and coal will remain an important part of the energy mixture for the next 20 years. He said that we cannot be based on coal. The real question is how we can use it in a sustainable way.

There will be a decrease in natural gas imports

According to Ram, converting coal into synthetic natural gas can reduce the country’s natural gas imports by about 50%, although commercialization of this technique is still a challenge. India aims to increase non-fossil fuel capacity by 500 GW by 2030. But coal is still in the central role for energy security. The government plans to increase coal-based capacity by 2035 to 97 GW, which will make the total capacity of about 307 GW. This is so that 24 -hour power supply in the country can be ensured.
