MLA Mehraj Malik Dettion: There have been protests against the detaining of MLA Mehraj Malik in Doda, Jammu and Kashmir. Schools have been closed till 14 September in Doda. Internet services have also been stopped.
Schools Closed in Doda: MLA Mehraj Malik has been detained under PSA (Public Safety Act) in Doda, Jammu and Kashmir. On the fourth day of his custody, officials closed schools in Doda till 14 September. Internet services have also been suspended.
There have been protests against the MLA being detained. Extreme security arrangements have been made to keep the situation under control. Police and CRPF personnel have been deployed in large numbers in areas affected by protests. The MLA has been detained under the PSA Act. With this act, the authorities have got the right to keep a person in custody for two years without judicial intervention. The District Magistrate of Doda ordered Mehraj Malik to be detained under PSA. The DM had said that his arrest is necessary to maintain the system in the district.
Jammu and Kashmir leaders condemned the MLA’s detention
Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, former Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti, People’s Conference (PC) chief Sajjad Lone, except Congress and BJP, other political leaders have condemned the MLA’s detention.
Omar Abdullah said- this will weaken democracy
Omar Abdullah met Mehraj Malik’s father on Wednesday and said that issues related to MLA could be resolved in the assembly. He condemned the MLA to be detained under the PSA and said that this would weaken democracy.

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leaders met Mehraj Malik’s father and assured him that he would fight a legal battle for the release of the MLA. Mehraj Malik’s father has said that his son is innocent. PSA was used against him to prevent him from raising public issues.
