Jharkhand teen killed in sacrificial ritual; Mother, occult, among 3 held

Hazaribagh: In a shocking incident, a mother in Jharkhand’s Hazaribagh district allegedly killed his daughter in a sacrificial ritual to save her son. The police have arrested the 35-year-old mother, the occult practitioner, and another man in the incident.

According to the police, the woman allegedly strangled her daughter to death in a sacrificial ritual in Kusumbha village of the state. Their arrest was announced at a press conference by Hazaribagh Superintendent of Police Anjani Anjan and Hazaribagh DIG Anjani Jha. The accused have been identified as Reshmi Devi, the mother of the victim, occult Shanti Devi (55), and Bhim Ram (40). All the accused belonged to the same village.

Mother used to visit occult often

Reshmi often used to visit the occult for the treatment of her youngest son. Her son reportedly suffers from some mental and physical illnesses. “The occult practitioner told the mother that they needed to sacrifice a virgin girl to cure the son of all ailments,” the police said as per PTI.

Sharing further details, the police said that on the night of Ashtami, when the entire village was busy with the festival and was witnessing the Mangla Julus, the young girl was strangled to death by her mother and Bhim Ram.

The tantrik allegedly struck a wooden stick inside the girl’s private part, while Bhim Ram reportedly hit the girl on her to get the blood out of her for the ritual. After killing her, the accused buried the girl in the garden. During the probe, the accused tried to misled the police by claiming that the girl was raped, however, the same was not proved during the post-mortem report.

Jharkhand HC takes suo motu cognisance

Following the incident, the Jharkhand High Court took suo motu cognisance of the incident and served a notice to the state administration and the director general of police. It took note based on media reports. The BJP also staged a 12-hour bandh in Hazaribagh to protest the murder.
