Cameron Green to bowl against SRH? KKR star resumes bowling in nets after criticism – WATCH

New Delhi: Cameron Green resumed bowling in the nets ahead of his side, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR)’s clash against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026. KKR will look to return to winning ways when they lock horns with SRH in their second game of the season at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Thursday, April 02.

Aussie all-rounder Green didn’t bowl as KKR slumped to a six-wicket defeat in their opening game against the Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium last week. Their bowlers struggled as KKR failed to defend a strong total of 220 runs in the game. A lot was said about Green’s lack of bowling in the game. The all-rounder was not utilised with the ball despite having claimed that he was ready to bowl ahead of the season.

Green was picked up by KKR for a whopping Rs 25.20 crore, becoming the most expensive player at the IPL 2026 auction last year. The Aussie all-rounder also became the most expensive overseas player in IPL history. Many felt he was picked as an ideal replacement for Andre Russell, who retired from the IPL after being released by KKR ahead of the auction.

However, Green’s lack of bowling came as a surprise against Mumbai Indians. When asked about the same, KKR skipper Ajinkya Rahane said “ask Cricket Australia”, pinning the blame on the board. Cricket Australia then issued a response, where they said Green is recovering from a lower back injury and needs to abstain from bowling for a short period.

Despite the statement, KKR’s decision to spend big on Green was criticised and questioned by many. Former India cricketer Aakash Chopra questioned if Green was worth the money if he won’t bowl in the tournament. However, the Aussie all-rounder was seen bowling in the nets in a video shared by KKR on Wednesday, hinting that he might not be far away from returning.

Will Cameron Green bowl against SRH?

Despite resuming bowling in the nets, Green might still be far away from bowling four overs in an actual game due to his lower back issue. The all-rounder might require a few days to gain bowling fitness before returning to action with the ball for the three-time champions. It is unlikely that Green will bowl in KKR’s clash against SRH at the Eden Gardens on Thursday.

KKR might have to execute their bowling plans without Green against the star-studded SRH batting line-up as they aim to return to winning ways after their loss in their opener against the Mumbai Indans.
