New Delhi: Hanuman Jayanti 2026 is being celebrated on Thursday, April 2, with great devotion across India. This auspicious festival marks the birth of Lord Hanuman, the divine symbol of strength, devotion, and unwavering faith. Devotees observe fasts, visit temples, and offer special sweets in bhog (sacred food offering). Among the wide range of festive delicacies, meethi boondi holds a special place. Its golden pearls of sweetness and rich aroma make it a beloved prasad during Hanuman Jayanti celebrations.

On this holy day, devotees prepare meethi boondi not merely as a sweet dish but as a sacred offering to Lord Hanuman. The simple yet divine flavour of boondi symbolises purity and devotion. Preparing it at home connects one with the spirit of seva (selfless service). This year, celebrate Hanuman Jayanti 2026 with a heartfelt offering of freshly prepared meethi boondi for bhog and invite divine blessings into your home.

Why Meethi Boondi is offered to Lord Hanuman

Meethi boondi is one of the most common offerings made to Lord Hanuman because it is considered his favourite sweet. The golden, round boondi balls, prepared in ghee and soaked in sugar syrup, represent humility and devotion. It is said that offering meethi boondi or boondi laddoo pleases Lord Hanuman and helps devotees attain courage, wisdom, and peace. The sweet also symbolises happiness and positive energy, which aligns perfectly with the spirit of Hanuman Jayanti.

Meethi Boondi recipe

Ingredients to make boondi

  • 1 cup besan (gram flour)

  • ¾ cup water (adjust for thick consistency)

  • A pinch of baking soda

  • Ghee or oil for frying

  • 1 cup sugar

  • ½ cup water (for syrup)

  • A few saffron strands (optional)

  • A pinch of cardamom powder

  • Chopped pistachios or almonds for garnish

How to make boondi at home

1. In a bowl, mix besan with water to form a smooth, lump-free batter. Add a pinch of baking soda and mix well to make it light. Let it rest.

2. Take another deep pan and heat sugar and water until it reaches a sticky, one-thread consistency. Then, add saffron strands and cardamom powder for flavour. Keep it warm but not hot.

3. Heat ghee or oil in a deep bottomed kadhai. Hold a perforated ladle over the oil and pour the batter through it so that small round boondis fall directly into the oil. Fry until they turn golden and crisp. Remove and drain on tissue paper.

4. Add the boondis to the sugar syrup and mix well so they absorb the sweetness evenly.

5. Garnish with chopped nuts. Offer the freshly made meethi boondi as bhog to Lord Hanuman and later distribute it as prasad.

As you celebrate Hanuman Jayanti 2026, preparing meethi boondi at home adds a personal touch to your devotion. Simple to make and deeply symbolic, this traditional sweet connects your offering with centuries of faith and reverence for Lord Hanuman.
