Mythological history of the temple
According to folk beliefs, the name of King Magh is associated with the establishment of this temple, after whom this village was named Maghada. It is said that in ancient times, there was a severe famine and outbreak of diseases like smallpox. Then Mother Sheetala appeared to him in his dream and instructed him to worship at this place to get relief from the epidemic. This temple is today known as Shitala Mata Temple.

Cold food has special significance in the worship of Sheetala Mata. Devotees offer food prepared a day before to the Mother Goddess, which is called stale food or Shitala Bhog. This tradition has been going on for centuries and devotees follow it with full devotion.
