Vijay declares assets worth Rs 624 crore in nomination affidavit, including loans to family and friends

Chennai: TVK leader Vijay, who filed his nomination papers for the Chennai Perambur constituency, has declared in his election affidavit that he possesses movable and immovable assets worth ₹624 crore. The affidavit also reveals a sharp rise in his annual income, from ₹8.04 crore in 2020–2021 to ₹184 crore in 2024–2025.

Income and total assets

According to the affidavit submitted alongside his nomination papers for the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly elections, Vijay’s income has seen a dramatic increase over the past five years. His total movable and immovable assets are valued at ₹624 crore. In addition to his personal wealth, Vijay has also disclosed significant loans extended to family members and close associates.

Loans to family and friends

Vijay stated that he has provided loans of ₹3.02 crore to his father, S.A. Chandrasekhar, and ₹87 lakh to his mother, Shoba. He declared that he has lent ₹12.06 crore to his wife, Sangeetha. Additionally, he noted loans of ₹8.78 lakh to his son, Jason Sanjay, and ₹4.60 lakh to his daughter, Divya Sasha. Beyond his immediate family, Vijay has extended loans of ₹3 crore to N. Anand, the General Secretary of TVK and a long-time friend, and ₹5 crore to producer V. Ravichandran.

Gold, Silver, and vehicle holdings

In his asset declaration, Vijay stated that he possesses 883 grams of gold valued at ₹1.20 crore, as well as silver articles worth ₹15 lakh. His wife, Sangeetha, possesses gold worth ₹4.07 crore, silver articles worth ₹5.10 lakh, and diamonds valued at ₹1 crore. The affidavit also lists ownership of several vehicles, including a BMW 530 valued at ₹80 lakh, a Toyota Lexus 350 valued at ₹3 crore, a BMW 17 valued at ₹2 crore, a Maruti Swift valued at ₹5.35 lakh, and a TVS XL Super valued at ₹67,000.

Bank deposits and other holdings

Vijay declared a deposit of ₹213 crore at the Saligramam branch of Indian Overseas Bank, ₹57 crore at the Indira Nagar branch of Axis Bank, and ₹77 lakh at the Besant Nagar branch of HDFC Bank. His wife Sangeetha holds a deposit of ₹10.43 crore at the Besant Nagar branch of HDFC Bank. Vijay also declared ownership of two estates located in the Vilpatti area of Kodaikanal.

Tax arrears and professional roles

The affidavit notes that Vijay’s income tax arrears amounted to ₹91 lakh for the 2011–2012 financial year and ₹14.13 lakh for the 2022–2023 financial year. Vijay stated that he discontinued his B.Sc. studies at Loyola College after the first year and currently serves as the Correspondent of Vijay Vidyashram School, as well as the Managing Director of Jaya Nagar Property Private Limited. He also noted that he acts as a trustee for various charitable foundations, including the Vidya Charitable Trust established in the name of his sister, Vidya.
