Parasailing cable snaps mid-air at Goa’s Baga Beach, viral video shows tourist falling into sea

Panaji: A major mishap was narrowly avoided in Goa after a tourist fell into the sea while parasailing when the cable tethering him to the boat snapped mid-air. The incident occurred off Baga beach and has since triggered concern over safety standards in adventure sports.

The tourist was airborne when the parasailing cable suddenly broke, causing him to fall from a height of around 15 feet. Fortunately, the parachute slowed his descent, preventing serious injuries.

Boat crew members acted swiftly, turning back to rescue the tourist from the water. The presence of a life jacket reduced the risk of drowning, a boat operator said.

Despite the safe rescue, the incident left fellow tourists on board shaken. Panicked people were heard screaming in a video of the incident that has gone viral on social media.

The Goa Police have launched an investigation into the incident, while the tourism department has sought a detailed report. Officials have warned that strict action, including suspension of licences, will be taken if any negligence is found.

The incident has reignited debate over the safety of adventure sports in India, particularly in popular tourist destinations. Social media users expressed concern, questioning whether adequate safety measures and equipment checks are being followed.

This is not an isolated case. In January 2025, a 27-year-old tourist and her instructor lost their lives in a paragliding accident in north Goa after crashing into a ravine shortly after take-off.
