The cunningness of the teams is over in IPL 2026! BCCI changed a major rule of DRS. Ipl 2026 Bcci Introduces Major Drs Rule Change One Review Will Check Only One Decision

IPL DRS RULE CHANGE: BCCI has made a major change in the DRS rule in IPL 2026. Now in a review, the third umpire will examine only that decision for which an appeal has been made. Apart from this, new rules have also been implemented regarding concussion substitutes and foreign players.

DRS RULE CHANGE: The new season of cricket’s biggest T20 tournament Indian Premier League has started. Only two matches have been played so far, but in the meantime the picture is gradually becoming clear regarding some new rules.

This time many changes have been made in the rules of the tournament, the biggest change of which is regarding the use of Decision Review System (DRS). The Board of Control for Cricket in India i.e. BCCI has tried to curb the manipulation of the teams by changing this rule. According to the new rule, now the third umpire in a DRS will examine only that decision for which an appeal has been made. That means now there will be only one check on one review.

Information was given in the captains meeting

According to reports, before the start of the new season, a meeting was held between the captains of all the 10 teams, in which this change was explained in detail. In this meeting, BCCI’s match referee head Javagal Srinath and umpiring head Nitin Menon explained to the teams how the new DRS rule will work and how it will have to be used during the match.

What used to happen in DRS earlier?

Till last season, when a team used DRS, the third umpire could not only examine that decision but also other aspects related to it. For example, if the fielding team appealed for catch and the umpire called it not-out, the TV umpire could also see whether the ball was wide or not by taking DRS. That is, many things were examined in a review, which sometimes gave additional advantage to the teams.

How will the new DRS rule work now?

This rule has been completely changed in IPL 2026. Now if the fielding team takes DRS against the decision of catch, then the TV umpire will only see whether the catch was made or not. He will not check the wide ball or any other aspect. If the batsman feels that the ball did not hit his bat and should have been given a wide, he will have to take DRS himself.

The batsman will also get only 15 seconds

Under the new rule, the batsman will also get only 15 seconds to appeal for DRS. The most important thing is that after the decision of the TV umpire, there will be no separate 15 seconds for appeal again. That means the players will have to immediately decide whether they want to take a review or not.

Change in the rules of concussion substitute also

Apart from DRS, another important change has been made in the rule of concussion substitute. If a player has to leave the field due to a head injury, his replacement will be selected from among the same 5 players who have already been named as impact substitutes.

New rule regarding foreign players also

If a foreign player suffers a concussion, then the foreign player will be able to replace him only if there are only 3 foreign players in the team’s playing-11. If there are already 4 foreign players in the field, then only an Indian player will get a chance in their place.

Cricket experts believe that the purpose of this change is to prevent unnecessary review and misuse of rules during the match. BCCI wants that DRS should be used in a clean and limited manner, so that the match can be decided in a fast and transparent manner.
