Sensex closed below 72 thousand after 26 months, investors lost Rs 9.43 lakh crore

Benchmark indices Sensex and Nifty faced heavy selling pressure for the second consecutive session on March 30. Due to which the Sensex closed below 72 thousand points for the first time after 26 months and investors suffered a loss of Rs 9.43 lakh crore. Its highest oil prices reached above $ 115 per barrel. On the other hand, the biggest reason was the huge fall in the rupee, which crossed the level of 95 against the dollar for the first time. On the other hand, after the decision of RBI regarding Forex, a decline was also seen in banking shares. Apart from this, the process of selling by foreign investors has not stopped. Due to which further decline is being seen in the stock market. Let us also tell you what kind of figures are being seen in the stock market.

Great decline in the stock market

On March 30, the Sensex fell 1,635.67 points or 2.22% to close at 71,947.55, and the Nifty fell 488.20 points or 2.14% to 22,331.40. About 837 shares advanced, 3,419 shares declined, and 138 shares remained unchanged. The special thing is that the Sensex has closed below 72 thousand points for the first time after 14 February 2024. This means that the Sensex has reached its lowest level in about 26 months.

Both Nifty 50 and Sensex have declined by about 10.5% in the month of March. Due to this, these indexes are heading towards their worst month since the huge decline caused by COVID-19 in March 2020. The main reasons for this are high crude oil prices and record monthly foreign capital outflow of $12.3 billion, which has weakened the morale of investors.

Financial year 2026 ends on Monday. These indexes are headed for their worst performance since FY 2020. There are several reasons behind this decline, including tensions between India and Pakistan, uncertainty over trade with the US in the first half of the year, and the Iran war in the second half; Amidst all this, continuous withdrawal of foreign capital also continued.
